The
Birth of Machias Nursery
We are Dennis and Chris Bahr and we opened
Machias Nursery in April of 2003. We are a husband and wife team
who previously owned a landscape and maintenance business based in
Bellevue, WA.
As a side-line in 1998, we experimented with growing
perennials from seed and soon began selling at area Farmer's Markets,
plant sales, and local nurseries. Our shared passion for plants led us
to establish this unique nursery to serve our community.
When the current nursery location
(formerly J & M Nursery) became available, we decided to take the
plunge. Starting small, keeping the landscaping business, we worked long
hours and slowly expanded into over 3 acres of nursery stock sales area.
We believe we have reached our goal of being able to supply all your
gardening needs, from a complete landscape project to seasonal color
spots and pot-stuffers.
With the many years of hands-on
gardening, design and installation, we have a solid foundation of
horticultural experience. We take immense pride and joy in our ability
to assist customers in choosing plants that will thrive in their unique
garden space.
"For The Love of Plants"
is what Machias Nursery is all about. Plants are our passion and we are
eager to share that with our customers. The surrounding neighborhoods
are primarily rural-suburban, and we have a huge selection of ornamental
and fruiting trees for larger properties. With our growing number of
urban customers, we have made available many choices of small-growing
trees for small-space gardens. Our shrub and hedge selection is
extensive and we have colorful perennials, annuals, vegetables, hanging
baskets, and herbs. Another major draw to our nursery are the rare and
unusual conifers and Japanese Maples that Dennis hand selects! And to
make certain that your new plants get off to a great start, we offer
"Gardner and Bloome" premium compost and potting soil and a complete
line of "Doctor Earth" pet-safe, earth-friendly organic fertilizers.
New visitors to the Nursery always say;
"Your plants look so healthy!" and "You have such unusual selections!"
Stop in and see what we have to offer. Chris, Dennis and our friendly
staff are here to help with your planting needs. |
