Blueberries

PATRIOT – Early, large, tangy sweet berry, 3 – 5 ft. tall bush.  Patriot was selected for home gardeners who desire a cold-hardy variety that bears consistent crops.  It is adaptable to many soil types and may perform better in wetter soils than many other varieties; though don’t site it in a boggy site during the winter months.  Patriot makes an excellent landscape variety with its showy white blooms in the spring, dark green summer foliage, and fiery orange-red fall colors.  Fall color is fiery red, yellow, and orange.  Zone 3 to 7

SPARTAN – Early, large, tangy sweet berry, 4 – 6 ft. tall bush.  Spartan is one of the most attractive, easy to pick and best flavored blueberries, making it a favorite at farm market stands and with home gardeners.  Spartan can be particular about soil types, requiring a site with light, well-drained soils and abundant organic matter.  Fall color is yellow, orange.  Zone 5 to 7

BLUECROP – Mid, large, sweet berry, 4 - 6 ft. tall bush.  Bluecrop is considered the best all around variety for adaptability, consistent yields, high quality fruit and disease resistance.  Bluecrop is perhaps the most widely planted variety in the U.S.  Fall color is red.  Zone 4 to 7

Duke – Early, medium-large sized fruit, 4 to 6 ft. tall bush.  Duke is a heavy, consistent producer with an attractive, firm, light blue high quality berry.  Ripens very early.

JERSEY – Late, medium sized, sweet, 6 – 8 ft. tall bush.  Jersey is one of the oldest and most widely grown of all varieties, a favorite for home gardeners wanting an easy to grow bush that produces a reliably heavy late season crops year after year.  This bush tolerates a wide range of soil types, and the medium sized, sweet tasting fruit is a favorite for fresh eating and baking.  Fall color is orange flame.  Zone 4 to 7

BLUEGOLD – An outstanding midseason variety of blueberry with exceptionally firm, sweet, flavorful and uniform sized berries.  Because Bluegold has a suprising high production and a heavy fruiting habit of truly superior fruit, growers refer to it as the “mortgage lifter” or “Bluegold”.  In storage, Bluegold has maintained good quality for up to 5 weeks!  This compact, round bush grows to 4 ft. tall and has unusual yellow fall foliage and yellow winter wood, makes it perfect for landscaping and a year round beauty.  Zone 4-7

SUNSHINE BLUE – Mid-season, medium sized berry, 3 ft. tall bush.  This semi-dwarf, versatile evergreen (semi-evergreen in colder winters) blueberry features showy hot pink flowers that fade to white in spring, yielding large crops of sweet delicious berries.  Makes a good container plant or perfect addition to the landscape. Zone 5-9

Northsky –  Mid-season, grows to 2 ft. tall and about 2 ft. wide.  Berries are small and have that rich “wild” blueberry sweet flavor.  Perfect for containers or incorporating into the landscape, it offers three seasons of color.  Snow-white blooms and dense, glossy green foliage appear in the spring, deep sky blue berries ripen in July, and leaves turn brilliant red in autumn.  Zone 3-7

Top Hat – Mid-late season. Sweet 1/2” dusky blue berries, grows to 2” tall and 2 ft. wide. Top Hat is perfect for growing in a pot on your patio.  Beautiful blooms in late spring, glossy green foliage in summer, yummy berries, striking fall foliage, then colored stems in the winter.
